Easy At Home Exercises

Physical exercise is important at any age, but the older we get, the more crucial being active is for a longer, happier life. The irony of the situation is that when it matters the most, it is hardest for us to accomplish. No matter what condition or age we are in, however, it is never too late to start improving our bodies. Even the smallest of exercises can create a giant transformation in our well-being. Let’s go over some beginner at-home workouts that are great for those looking to get back into shape. Of course, with all of these, we want to stress the importance of putting safety first and not placing yourself in a dangerous situation.

Squats

Squats are great for improving flexibility and strengthening the hips and quadriceps. For those looking to improve balance and decrease the risk of falling, this is the best place to start. Understandably, if you are experiencing balance issues, this may be hard to accomplish at first. We recommend facing the back of a chair and holding on for support if you are nervous about falling. Once in place, bend your knees and lower your body. There is no need to go further than a sitting position, and you should only go however far you feel you can.

Curls

These are great for improving arm strength and they are one of the simpler exercises for seniors. You will need two dumbbells at whatever weight you feel comfortable with. Don’t try to do too much, especially when first starting off. While sitting in a chair, hold a dumbbell in each hand and lift until each weight is three-quarters of the way to your shoulder.

Sit-Ups or Sit-Backs

We all remember sit-ups from our school days. They involve laying down with your knees bent and feet on the floor and lifting your torso towards your knees by using the core muscles around your stomach. You may find that this particular exercise has become more difficult with age, which is no problem! If sit-ups are too difficult, try sit-backs. Instead of starting with your back on the floor, start in the upright position and lower your body until it is no longer comfortable. Then make your way back up to your knees! This will improve the aforementioned core muscles, which will make everyday tasks much easier.
